Animal Licenses
All dogs must be licensed in the State of Michigan at the age of 4 months and older. In order to purchase a dog license, you must present proof of a current rabies vaccination. The deadline to purchase a dog license is June 1st of each year!
NOTE: In order to purchase a 3-year license, your pet must have a 3-year rabies vaccine with an expiration date of at least two years from the current year (ex: a 3-year license purchased in 2013 must have an expiration date of 2015 or later). An example price for a 3 year license would be $7.50 (altered) x 3 = $22.50 total or $15.00 (intact) x 3 = $45.00 total
Dog License Fees
- $ 7.50 Spayed or Neutered (Altered)
- $15.00 Male or Female (Intact)
Senior Citizen prices are for residents 65 years of age and older
- $ 6.75 Spayed or Neutered (Senior)
- $13.50 Male or Female (Senior)
Dog License Fees are $30 if the renewal license is purchased after June 1st
Dog licenses are valid for a calendar year. Dog licenses go on sale December 1st though November 30th of each year. The above prices apply to dog licenses purchased from December 1st through June 1st of each year. On June 2 all Oakland County dog licenses become $30 regardless if the dog is altered or if the owner is a senior. The only exceptions to this fee are puppies that just turned 4 months of age, newly acquired dogs or new residents to the area.

Maximum number of Dogs and Cats
Clawson Code of Ordinances States:
Sec. 14-2. - Maximum number of dogs and cats.
No person shall own or harbor more than three dogs of the age of six months or over, except if such person is licensed as a kennel owner by the state; nor shall any person own or harbor more than three cats of the age of six months or over. (Ord. No. 691, 3-15-2011)
Onstreet Parking
The City of Clawson’s Code of Ordinance Chapter 78 Section 8.26, prohibits the parking of a vehicle on any street in the City between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This has been in place for many years. The benefits of such an ordinance are many. The ordinance helps identify and prevent abandoned vehicles, allows our officers to identify suspicious vehicles, and keeps our streets clear for emergency vehicles and public service vehicles such as snow plows. The ordinance is in effect and our officers enforce the ordinance on a regular basis.
There are signs advising the existence of the 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM parking prohibition posted at the main thoroughfares into the City of Clawson. According to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, Section 2B.40, “To minimize the number of parking signs, blanket regulations that apply to a given district may, if legal, be posted at district boundary lines.” The posting of the signs in this manner has been recognized in the court as a valid notification of our ordinance. The City of Clawson as well as many other cities with such an ordinance, post signs in that manner to avoid the unsightly appearance of parking signs placed everywhere within the city.
In addition, if on occasion, you have guests or construction issues that will need to park in the street past 2:00 AM, you can call Dispatch to be placed on a list at 248-524-3477 for a waiver for the evening. You will be asked to provide an address and license plate information for the vehicle. Dispatch will notify Clawson officers that violations should be waived for the evening. Please be aware, they do keep track and this courtesy may be revoked if abused. Sometimes, however rare, the information does not get to the Clawson officers and a citation is issued. If that ever happens, just go to the Police Department and they can resolve it by confirming with dispatch that a call was made.
