About Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Covid-19 is an infectious respiratory illness that has become widespread throughout the United States. Most people that get the virus will have mild symptoms but can cause serious illness for some. Older adults and people with underlying medical problems are more likely to develop serious illness from the virus.
Symptoms of COVID-19
Covid-19 affects different people in different ways. Most people infected will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.
Most common symptoms: fever, dry cough and drowsiness
Less common symptoms: aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell
Serious symptoms: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure and loss of speech or movement
Spread and Prevention of COVID-19
COVID-19 is primarily spread between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet, or 2 arm lengths). It is spread mainly through coughs and sneezes which is why it is important to maintain a safe distance when interacting with other people.
Along with safe social distancing the following are the best ways to keep you and the ones around you safe.
- Wear a mask when around other people
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Cover your mouth and nose into your elbow while coughing or sneezing
- Avoid touching your face
- Use alcohol based hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available
- Avoid contact with people who are sick
- Stay home if you are feeling unwell
