The City Clerk’s Office welcomes you to the City of Clawson. Our office is located in City Hall at 425 N. Main. City Hall is open for business Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 AM until 5:30 PM and closed on Fridays.

The following services are available at the City Clerk’s office:
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS: The City Clerk’s Office accepts applications from citizens who are interested in serving on one of our many Boards and Commissions. These appointments are made by the Mayor and City Council and serve in an advisory capacity to them.
CITY COUNCIL AND OTHER BOARD MEETINGS: The City Clerk attends all of its meetings, prepares agendas for their meetings and as official keeper of the records, original minutes of all meetings of Council and Boards and Commissions are kept and archived by the Clerk. All meetings are open to the public and they can be viewed on our City’s website and on the local municipal cable channel. City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month unless changes are noted on the website. A detailed meeting schedule is available on our website calendar for other meeting dates.
LICENSING: Licenses such as dog, initial merchant, used car dealership licenses, Christmas tree lots, peddlers/canvassers, coin-operated amusement devices, liquor licenses, and dance/entertainment licenses are issued in the Clerk’s Office. City Ordinance requires that all peddlers/canvassers obtain a license from the City Clerk. All dogs and cats are required to have received the rabies vaccine. A license is required after your dog has reached 4 months of age. Dog licenses are valid for a calendar year and you can purchase a 1 or 3 year license at the City with a valid rabies vaccination. Dog licenses go on sale November 30th of each year. Check out the City website for prices. The City Clerk does not maintain marriage, birth or death records. Marriage, birth and death records may be obtained from the Oakland County Clerk's Office.
FIRE PERMITS: The City Clerk issues fire permits, all you need to provide is an ID showing your Clawson address or a bill with the new address if you recently moved to the City. There is a $10 fee to obtain a fire permit for 5 years.
FOIA: The City Clerk is the coordinator of Freedom of Information requests. It is her responsibility to see that proper requests are answered appropriately and in a timely manner. Information may be found at the US Department of Justice website and firstamendmentcenter.org.
VOTING: The City of Clawson has a population of just over 12,000 residents. Of those, approximately 9,400 are registered voters. There are 5 polling locations in Clawson. If you are 18 years of age or older, we encourage you to exercise your right to vote. You can register to vote at our office or a Secretary of State office when you get your driver’s license. You can also fill out an application and mail or drop it off to our office. You must be registered to vote at least 30 days before the next election. You must appear in person to vote in the first election in which you wish to participate. This requirement does not apply if you: (1) personally hand deliver this form to your county, city or township clerk’s office instead of mailing the form, (2) are 60 years of age or older, (3) are disabled, or (4) are eligible to vote under the federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.
