Functions of the Clerk’s Office
The City Charter, Section 4.15, states that the City Clerk is Clerk of the Council, attends all of its meetings, and shall keep a record of all of its proceedings. As official keeper of the records, original minutes of all meetings of Council and Boards and Commissions are kept and archived by the Clerk. Licenses such as dog, business, Christmas tree lots, peddlers, coin operated amusement devices, and others are issued in the Clerk’s Office. The City Clerk issues fire permits, all you need to provide is an ID showing your Clawson address or a bill with the new address if you recently moved to the City. There is no fee to obtain a fire permit and they are good for 5 years. The City Clerk does not maintain marriage, birth or death records. Marriage, birth and death records may be obtained from the Oakland County Clerk's Office.
Freedom of Information
The City Clerk is the coordinator of Freedom of Information requests. It is her responsibility to see that proper requests are answered appropriately and in a timely manner.
