Social Security - Undesrtanding Your Benefits

On Monday evening, January 25, a Social Security Administration speaker will review benefits, discuss your concerns and answer questions. This free program, sponsored by Ameriprise Financial, will be held in the library at 6:30pm. Please pre-register in the library or by phone beginning January 2.

From Viet Nam to Clawson: An Evening with Kim Dao Waldis

On Monday evening, February 1, Kim Dao Waldis, a co-owner of Da Nang Restaurant in Clawson, will speak about her experiences as a Vietnamese immigrant in Michigan. This program is offered in partnership with THE GREAT MICHIGAN READ, an initiative of the Michigan Humanities Council, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This year's book selection is Stealing Buddha's Dinner by Bich Minh Nguygen, who left Vietnam in 1975 and grew up in Grand Rapids. This free program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held in the library at 7pm. Please pre-register in the library or by phone beginning January 4.

Perfectly Clear: The Art of Glass

Since ancient times, man has paid an almost mythical attention to glass, sttributing something magical and supernatural to the transparent medium. On Monday evening, March 1, a docent from the Detroit Institute of Arts will give a slide presentation about some of the amazing glass that is in the permanent collection of the DIA. This free program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held in the library at 7pm. Please pre-register in the library or by phone beginning February 1.

Let's Get Growing - With Spring Planting, That Is!!

We are all anxiously awaiting spring weather and the bounty of new, refreshing growth. Learn how to prepare your gardens for healthy, productive results. Good practices and preperation will be the focus of this presentation by Bette Walker, Certified Master Gardener Candidate, on Monday evening, April 5. This free program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held in the library at 7pm. Please pre-register in the library or by phone beginning March 1.

The Friends of Blair Memorial Library meet at 6:15pm immediately preceding the Monday evening programs (October - June). This dedicated group of library boosters welcomes all members of the community to join them as they plan activities and fund-raisers to support the library.

Museum Adventure Pass

 


Check out a Museum @ your library


Library patrons have the opportunity to check-out complimentary passes (admission for 2 or 4) to many of Southeastern Michigan’s world-class cultural institutions. Blair Memorial Library joins the Library of Michigan Foundation, Macy’s and the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan to offer “The Museum Adventure Pass, presented by Macy’s.”



How It Works

Library patrons with a valid library card in good standing can check out a Museum Adventure Pass at Blair Memorial Library. The Museum Adventure Pass is issued for one participating museum and is valid for one week from the check-out date. The pass will handed in at the box office of the participating organization for free admission for two or four people. A limited number of passes are available each week, on a first-come, first-served basis.
